It never ceases to amaze me, that even though the weekend might be quiet and uneventful, it can still fly by so fast! :) Ours did just that...
On Friday, we were able to experience bowling in Germany... A fellow expat celebrated her birthday and invited a group of friends to the local bowling alley. It was my first time bowling in Germany, so I was quite excited about going. :) We ended up having a very fun time! And I realized that bowling in Germany isn't all that different from bowling in the U.S.... Well, outside of the fact that they don't follow any of the typical bowling ettiquette that we use in the States (i.e. wait for the person on the left of you to bowl before you begin, etc...), and it was the first bowling alley that I've ever been in that had a giant soccer ball hanging from the ceiling in the middle of the alley as decoration (apparently, the thing to do is to go bowling while a soccer game is playing... You can bowl while you cheer on your favorite soccer team?! :))!
Brian and I spent Saturday rock climbing at the Kletterbox in Ravensburg... Whoa, that was definitely a slap in the face for us! :) After months of not climbing, we realized just how out of practice we were... After only two hours of climbing, our fingers were sore, our arms felt like rubber, our egos were totally shattered, and we were ready to head home... Grrrr!! All of the progress we made in climbing last year seemed to be gone... :( Literally, I slipped and fell off a wall that I could have climbed up with one hand and both eyes closed last year (ultimately, I blame the slip on my new climbing shoes! :)) Needless to say, our goal is to get back in gear and get ourselves back to the level (and hopefully better) than we were at last year! :)
Sunday proved to be an entertaining day for us. Brian has been wanting to go to a zoo so that he can practice taking pics with his new lens. So, he looked online and found a "zoo" that was supposed to be open daily and located about a half hour from here... So, we headed out there early in the afternoon. We were quite surprised by what we found when we arrived at our destination. :) We pulled into the "zoo" parking lot and found ourselves looking out at a very large, empty area surrounded by a fence... Off to the side of the parking lot was a empty building with picnic tables and an "observation" area. Some zoo! Apparently, it's not open daily as advertised, or if it is, it's only during the summer. And as for the kind of "zoo" it is... I'm going to assume a small petting zoo... Lovely! :) Let's just say that Brian didn't get many pictures of zoo animals that day... However, he did try to make the most of the day... He had me drive home and every time he spotted a hawk sitting in a tree near the road, he'd roll the window down and snap some pictures of it... Good times (there's actually a hint of sarcasm in that statement)! :)
After the "zoo" debacle, we tried to salvage what was left of our Sunday afternoon, by taking a walk along the beach... It wasn't exactly what one would call a "picture perfect" day at the Bodensee, but with only a slight chill in the air, the mist rolling across the lake, and the deserted beach, it did make for a pretty cool backdrop for our walk. :)
